My One Year Anniversary On The Huffington Post

[ Posted Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 – 16:17 UTC ]

This column marks my first anniversary posting here on the Huffington Post.

[This is going to be a completely narcissistic column, so if that sort of thing doesn't interest you, I advise you to just skip down to the "An Announcement" section, or stop reading altogether. You have been warned.]

I first posted here on June 9th last year, but I was traveling this past weekend to see a relative of mine graduate high school so I had to wait until now to write about it.

I got the opportunity to begin writing here as part of a promotional campaign for the book I wrote, How Democrats Can Take Back Congress, and I'd like to thank Arianna and the whole Huffington Post team for allowing me the privilege of posting here. It's been a lot of fun, I must admit.

Looking back at the 75 columns I wrote last year (some good, some bad... and some just downright embarrassing), I'd like to not-so-humbly point out a few that do deserve mentioning.

Best reader comments of all time (you guys amaze me!):
American Foreign Policy: Wonderland, Oz, and Never-Never Land

Fiercest firestorm in the comments:
So Is Torturing A Daughter OK?

Best historical analogy:
Whose Head Will Roll Next?

Best crystal ball prediction of the future:
How Congress Will Stop The War In Iraq

Worst crystal ball prediction of the future:
Pay No Attention To The Downed Helicopters Behind The Curtain

Most amusing prediction, if it happens:
Presidential Campaign Free-For-All

Best running joke:
October Surprise 2006: Place Your Bets Now!
Last Call For 2006 "October Surprise" Bets!

Funniest column that nobody read:
Catch-22 In Iraq: An Augmentation

And finally, the two citations I'm most proud of: winning "Thought of the Day" from The National Journal on their webpage The Hotspot, and being quoted in an article on Iraq by the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations. Pretty good for a newbie blogger!

An Announcement

But I didn't just write today's column to feed my ego in one way, I also have an announcement to make: I'm starting my own blog at ChrisWeigant.com. [I know, I know, it's hard to spell -- sorry about that.]

Now, this doesn't mean I still won't be posting here every Wednesday. I treasure the opportunity to reach the Huffington Post audience every week and will continue to do so as long as they'll have me.

But I've noticed more and more that events happen so quickly that I have found myself (at times) posting two or three times a week. Since I sincerely don't want to wear out my welcome here, I've decided to post (mostly) daily thoughts on my own website, to keep up with events that don't make it into my weekly Huffington Post columns.

The format will be less formal than what I write here, and it'll be closer to true "blog posts" than "articles" or "columns." The site is now up and running, and while it may have some growing pains in the next few weeks as I get the bugs out, it should be fully functional and ready for you to browse through.

So I invite you to come on over and check it out!

[Next week, I promise to write an entire column without using the word "I" once, to make up for this egomaniacal screed...]
