Program Note

[ Posted Saturday, February 28th, 2015 – 18:47 UTC ]

[OK, another item on my ever-longer "upgrades needed for the CW.com site" list is to create a page where these sorts of things are easily available, complete with controls so you can listen without having to download big audio files. But until we get to that point....]

Yesterday, I was interviewed on a morning talk show in Atlanta, Georgia (WAOK 1380 AM). Since I'm a West Coast type of guy, I'll ask you to please bear in mind that this interview took place between 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM, my time. In other words, my brain was (barely) working, and awfully slowly. But it was a fun interview to do, complete with a break in the middle for a call-in guest who propounded the notion that Barack Obama was a warlock.

In any case, my apologies for the do-it-yourself nature of listening to the interview, but here are the two mp3 files (Part 1 and Part 2) which contain the interview. Scroll about halfway through the first file to hear when my interview starts, and then it continues throughout the whole second file (they're both about 10 minutes long).

Enjoy, and somebody please bring Chris some more caffeine (heh)....

CW- Does your cat not normally wake you between 5:30-6:00 am demanding kibble STAT!!!? The only solution to the early wake up I've been able to find is to always keep the dish full, which gives caregivers more sleep, but results in a 30lb cat that crushes things, including kneecaps.

Your Emancipation Proclamation comeback was quite apt, and one I haven't heard discussed before. Style points for getting that in after the Warlock disruption... which for all it's silliness did support the larger point about disrespect. I think "Robert" might have been Herman Cain under that alias. Or maybe it was Geoffrey Peterson, looking for something to do. He has a house in the middle part of Atlanta and too much spare time.

Your host's comment about same sex kissing was an interesting example of how Southern Progressives tend to diverge from East Coast and West Coast sub species on some social issues.

Finally, have you a new book in the pipeline? A new book opens up local Public Radio slots, with more time, no commercials and fewer deranged callers. You deserve a better venue than AM radio.

Anybody else watching the 3rd season of House of Cards on Netflix? The US CAN beat the Brits in TV drama!!! Then again, Kevin Spacey WAS director of London's Old Vic.

He was awesome in CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE

You sound pretty good for 5:30 in the morning, CW!

I'd be terrified of going on air. It's a completely different world than writing.

    Very cool.

Anybody else watching the 3rd season of House of Cards on Netflix?

Soon, Stig. Soon. I'm caught up in Game of Thrones right now.

A thoroughly hilarious episode, even if it's (for all intents and purposes) a clip episode... :D

Chris: you have a nice radio voice! 5:30 am -- ugh. The warlock thing - geez. But I enjoyed the host and your comments!

The cat. Well, see, my wife gets up first. So she gets the benefits of the "furry alarm clock," usually around 6:30-7:00 AM. I mean, she's got food in her bowl, but "THE SUN IS UP, IT'S TIME TO BE AWAKE!" as you may know.

Thankfully, our cat is only around 11 pounds. But she does tend to claw whatever extremity is sticking out from the covers at that early hour, so the effect is the same.

My wife was indeed away on business this week, and I got my lip and chin clawed at 7:00 AM. Oh, the joys of being a cat owner!

The Emancipation Proclomation bit I admit I cribbed from comments on other articles I've read on the subject, so it wasn't exaclty original (originality is too much to ask before the sun comes up...). But I read the same sex kiss comments by the host as nothing more than soft ridicule for the caller... maybe I was biased by a lack of caffeine, I'll listen to it again.

As for AM content, this is the first radio interview I've done in a while inside the US, so I'm happy to build slowly...

    akadjian -

Yeah, I like radio interviews because (obviously) you don't have to get to a specialized studio or be dressed nice or look nice (as for TV). I can do a radio interview at 5:30 AM, but if it was TV, I think I'd just stay up all night and wing it.

As for all the dog comments, I'll have you folks know that EVERY time I leave my house, I say in the strictest voice I know how: "Guard the house!" to my cat, and haven't had a break-in yet.

    :-)

    I have a watch-cat. Beware.

    Paula [9] -

Soon (I hope), I will create a page on this site where people can listen to all the radio interviews I've done, over the years. Most are painfully early in the morning (like this one), but some are better than others.

It's one of the things on my "to do" list, and I've got most of the files already lined up, so it shouldn't be too hard to put together. So you can hear me a little more awake than this one!

    :-)

    Michale [10] -

Have you seen the Simpsons episode where Patty and Selma capture Richard Dean Anderson? It's possibly the most hilarious thing he's ever done... and that's saying a lot.

My favorite Stargate episode was when they all went back in time and masqueraded as hippies. Seeing RDA as a freak was priceless...

If you like that, you simply HAVE to watch "200".. Think it's season 10... Learn something about Jack's 60s adventure.. :D
