Happy Turkey Day!

[ Posted Wednesday, November 25th, 2015 – 17:24 UTC ]

What with the lateness of the hour (and the fact that nobody's going to read much of anything tomorrow), I am hereby officially punting on writing today's column. We'll be relaxing for the rest of the week, in fact, as we celebrate the great American feast of Thanksgiving as well as all the other tangential holiday festivities (leftovers, the Macy's parade, watching the Lions lose a football game, etc.).

I heartily wish you and yours the happiest of Turkey Days, and have one piece of advice for liberal travelers back to the old homestead: if you have one of those "drunk uncle" types at the table who blathers on in fluent politically-incorrectese, this year he might actually be worth listening to. How else are we to understand the staying power of Donald Trump, after all? Remember (a scary thought) -- there are a lot of guys and gals out there just like him, and they all might just nominate Trump for president this time around.

With that cheerful thought, I once again wish all and sundry a very happy Thanksgiving! See you all back here Monday, when regular columns will resume.

    Really?

"What we do know is that he killed a cop in the line of duty, along with two of the citizens that police officer was trying to protect. We know that law enforcement saved lives, as so many of them do every day, all across America," he said. "And we know that more Americans and their families had fear forced upon them."

"May God bless Officer Garrett Swasey and the Americans he tried to save -- and may He grant the rest of us the courage to do the same thing," the president added."
    -President Obama

Is it political if you refuse to read the entire statement?

FALSE. Please, at the very least, read the statement before you make nonsense comments about it.

Michale, you really must stop making false statements. This is really not the place for your fabrications. Rather you should take nonsense like this to one of your other favourite sites and spare us the headache.

You really must think that you are dealing with a bunch of idiots here because that is precisely how you treat us, most of the time.

So, are you saying that you believe there are no laws which could be passed that may help to prevent mass shootings in the US or that you know what could be done but you don't want to say?

What do you think your country should do, if anything, to address this problem?

    There are plenty of laws..

    Can be passed??

Not with the 2nd Amendment in place..

What do you think your country should do, if anything, to address this problem?

It's NOT a "problem" in the statistical sense...

More people are killed by cars and drugs than by guns....

Guns are as much a "problem" as cars and drugs are...

You want to put a dent in crowd-based mass shootings??

Increase mental-health screening and monitoring and domestic surveillance...

But the Left Wingery won't do that...

But, if you want to address a REAL problem....

Let's take black on black shootings in Chicago from Jan thru Oct..

    Shot & Killed: 405
    Shot & Wounded: 2323
    Total Shot: 2728
    Total Homicides: 457

You see, this is why I can't get all excited about Obama and Democrats getting all bent out of shape over a crowd-based mass shooting..

Because if they were REALLY interested in combating the problem, they would clean their OWN house first...

They would address the issue even if it DOESN'T help their partisan agenda...

Until such time as they want to address the TOTALITY of the issue and not just the part that serves their partisan agenda...???

They are talking to the wind as far as I am concerned..

I agree, Michale, that the real issue is gun violence in America, regardless of who is killing who.

Perhaps if this issue is approached more comprehensively, in the most general terms, then the individual parts of the problem may be better addressed.

    Michale,

Using your very own logic, the Syrian refugee problem doesn't exist, statistically, when you compare the level of violence perpetrated by American citizens upon their own countrymen.

So, I hope your leaders at the state and local levels will come to their senses and start welcoming the idea of settling refugees from a war-torn part of the world that America is largely responsible for in the first place.

Ahhhhh, but the threat is not the same...

Crowd-based shootings, on the average, kill 9 people.. 3 people if there is a Conceal Carry person present...

A terrorist in the midst of refugees has the potential to kill dozens, if not hundreds...

So the threat potential puts them in far different categories...

    But, don't get me wrong..

I am ON YOUR SIDE when it comes to gun violence...

But the problem, as I point out is that Democrats ONLY want to examine "fixes" that don't interfere with their political agenda...

Zero Tolerance for gun crimes was a good start.. Until ACLU-type Democrats started making the scumbag gun-wielder into the victim...

    You see the point??

There are DOZENS of things that can be done to curb gun violence that has NOTHING to do with guns..

But Democrats don't care about those possibilities.. GUNS are the problem and that is that... They don't care about ANY other aspect or possibility..

That makes them unworthy to listen to..

    Well, not much anyways.. :D

    But my point is simple..

What laws ARE possible HAVE been implemented....

It's not as if this is a new issue and people are scrambling to establish law to address it...

Any law that can be put out there that doesn't violate the 2nd Amendment HAS been put out there...

The Gun Control groups are victims of their own success. They have gone as far as they can within the confines of the 2nd Amendment..

This being the case, the path forward is clear....

Either start the repeal process for the 2nd Amendment or concede that Gun Control has gone as far as it can...

I don't have a problem with refugees in general..

But when there is ironclad proof-positive evidence that a certain group of refugees has a terrorist element, a Wolf In The Fold, if you will, then I don't see the logic in bringing them to the US..

It's not as if their lives are in any danger where they are right now.. They are already out of harm's way..

There is no reason to bring them to the US except for the reason cited above...
