My apologies, but there will be no new column today. I am dealing with automotive (transmission) problems, and had to spend all day running around, leaving no time to write. Hopefully, I'll still be able to get a column out tomorrow for the weekly Friday Talking Points roundup. For now, my apologies again for the lack of column today.

Trump Opponents Never Tire of Losing
It doesn’t appear they’ll ever figure him out.
For well over three years, Donald Trump has been under attack. He has been subjected to unprecedented slander by the media, dirty tricks by the Democrats, legally dubious investigations, and sabotage by the deep state. Yet he is not only still standing, he has a record of accomplishments that any president would be happy to claim after two years in office. One would think his opponents would be able to divine a message from this. To wit, their time might be better spent working on behalf of the voters rather than launching further futile attempts to bring Trump down.
Moreover, the polls have increasingly indicated that this would not only be the right thing to do, it would be the smart move. A new Morning Consult poll — hardly predisposed to favor President Trump — shows enthusiasm for impeachment among registered voters continuing to plummet. Only 34 percent of registered voters favor ousting Trump, and among Independents that percentage is only 31 percent. Even among Democrats, the percentage who want to see the President impeached has fallen by 12 points (from 71 to 59 percent). The voters, in other words, are done.

The numbers: Reports of the demise of the U.S. economy proved unfounded as first-quarter activity showed surprising strength. The U.S. economy expanded at a 3.2% annual pace in the first three months of 2019, the government said Friday.
The gain was well above forecasts. Economists polled by MarketWatch had forecast a 2.3% increase in gross domestic product. The economy grew at a 2.2% rate in the final three months of 2018.

You were onto something the other day: Rosenstein's got some 'splaining to do!
If the reporting is factual, it sounds like Rod Rosenstein got caught by sources and methods, and that means somebody was suspicious of him and knows a lot more. I would wager Mueller's team became suspicious of Rosenstein so took appropriate steps to investigate, and while Mueller and his team were doing their job to faithfully defend America and her citizens, Barr and Rosenstein have been busy "landing the plane" for Trump... and somebody just ratted them out.
Add another log to the Trump obstruction of justice pile. I see a subpoena in Rosenstein's future, and he should assume that there are tapes. :)
