Program Note

[ Posted Thursday, August 11th, 2022 – 20:20 UTC ]

Sorry, there will be no column today. Our power was off from 8:30 in the morning until the end of the day, so I had no internet access at all. I'll be spending tonight getting tomorrow's column ready (by raking through the week's news) so check back tomorrow when (hopefully) regular service will resume. My apologies for the interruption....

Holy shit! The FBI better dot it's i's and cross it's t's to the nth degree but if true and it's the real secrets not just accessory stuff it's not prison but a full Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for him and anyone else in on it. Nothing is going to save him from that level of treason...

“Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents,” Trump said in a late-night post on his social media site, Truth Social.

Question: If Trump truly wanted the documents released, why didn't he just release them himself? He was given copies of these documents by the FBI.

Trump could have released them at any time... but didn't. The judge gave Trump until 3pm to appeal the DOJ's motion to release the documents. Let's see if Trump doesn't change his tune about making all of his dirty laundry available to the public before then.

Of course "nuclear weapon documents" probably is limited to strategy, deployment and maybe the existence of weapon systems not known to our adversaries. From what I have read, the plans to the latest miniaturized warhead sort of thing is held in extremely secure air gaped facilities and though theoretically Trump could view them, he would not be able to send Bannon or Kushner down to pick them up or make copies.

Illegal definitely, but not Rosenberg execute him ASAP kind of high treason...

Interestingly, it was a confidential informant that tipped off the FBI regarding the illegally retained documents, including the exact locations to search. Mind you, the warrant was served more than 18 months after Trump left the White House and only after he already returned 15 boxes of documents he had taken illegally and after a grand jury had determined a crime had been committed by Trump and had served a subpoena at Mar-a-Lago in June 2022 and had retrieved more illegally retained documents at that time.

Trump had ample time and opportunities to return the illegally retained documents and chose not to do so. After the tip from the CI, the FBI no longer trusted that Trump would turn over the documents. How many other private citizens do you think would be allowed to illegally retain top secret documents for over a year and a half? Zero.

The FBI has now recovered approximately 20 boxes from Trump's residence that contained multiple top secret documents, some of them marked TS/SCI, which means Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information that is only supposed to be viewed in SCIFs and seen by precious few people, and it matters not one whit if Trump says he "declassified" this information; it's illegal to retain it and literally theft of property to remove from the White House and retain documents at his home. It's a felony, and it was then-President Trump who signed into law the bill that made it a felony circa January 2018.

You hear the Righties pounding the table and defending Trump for this? This is how democracy dies when one Party defends the outright theft and willful retention of United States property of top secret information including TS/SCI that is only supposed to be viewed by limited persons at the highest level, and there is no plausible basis under law for that information to be located at a private residence of anyone.

Whataboutism regarding Hillary Clinton? This isn't even in the same ballpark. Clinton's emails were her property that were delivered to her, albeit at a personal email. There's no comparison here to 20 boxes of stolen property including top secret documents that can only be viewed in a SCIF.

Trump claiming Obama did the same thing? Bullshit. Thanks for the admission of guilt... y'all don't hurt yourselves moving the goalposts.

Trump claiming he declassified the information and the Righties vilifying the FBI and (again) putting the lives of law enforcement officers in danger? Same shit, different day. Another dead American who decided to fight the law for Donald Trump? Same shit, different day.
