Meaningless in the grand scheme of things but it's the race I'm closely watching. Hall screwed up just about every election she has run including this one as she has announced that beyond the initial reporting of results so far, there will be no updates until 6pm tomorrow. But aside from that I had to go through her office to get a deed transferred to a trust and even though my letter was drawn up by a lawyer, it took three visits, each requiring a notary to notarize the updated letter as no nit was left unpicked by Hall's office... this one is personal.

There was a huge election day turnout in the rurals. Clark County usually has enough election day turnout to overtake the rurals... but not so this midterms.
The remaining votes to be counted are mail-in ballots which naturally heavily favor Democrats... just better hope/pray there are at minimum 100,000 outstanding mail-in ballots... the more outstanding mail, the better.

Seriously, with the ever increasing number of climate change related weather events, I'm really interested in what the solution is that wouldn't put the insurance companies out of business.
It seems to me to be quite logical to suppose that the answer certainly lies in a public-private partnership type enterprise that would also involve mandating where people can and cannot live, at least if they wish to have insurance.
I figure it's strong building regulations to survive hurricanes and preventing rebuilding in high frequency flood areas, you know the antithesis of Republican ideals. I call it mundane not because it's easy but because it's the run of the mill stuff a Governor should be doing rather than all the culture war virtue signaling that Ron prefers...

Actually, for Oregon I think the numbers are showing that a moderate to liberal Democrat is king but the further progressive the candidate is, especially the more radical end, the bigger opening there is for a Republican to win. It's hard to tell whether Betsy Johnson was more a spoiler for the left or the right. Phil hoped she would take votes from the left but her ads were on the conservative side of moderate...
As the contest was not limited to the population of tiny Ulster County in New York, I voted in their I Voted Sticker Contest this past summer.
I'm happy to say I voted for the winning entry. Alas, that didn't entitle me to a sticker; I would have worn it proudly. I had to settle for one as shown at the top of this column.

As to Boaty McBoatFace, the County actually picked this as a finalist (it made the commissioners laugh) and drew the attention of everyone who saw it. I haven't looked for pictures of voters out and about with these stickers, but I bet these started lots of conversations.
The county was trying to "engage youth" in the voting process with this contest. They may not have expected it to go viral, but they plan to run a similar contest this year, I believe, for any ballot items that arise. I plan to check in on that. Should be wild.
