Trump Leaves No Doubt

[ Posted Tuesday, December 6th, 2022 – 16:42 UTC ]

Donald Trump doesn't want to be elected president. Instead, he would much prefer it if here were simply anointed president, or perhaps crowned president. If elections and democracy get in the way of his main goal, he freely jettisons them. This has been obvious to most people for a very long time, but he recently removed all tiny shreds of any remaining doubt. He openly called for the "termination" of the United States Constitution, in order that he (somehow) can be immediately reinstated as the "rightful" president.

Here is how he put it, after (once again) the most recent of the promised "smoking guns" turned into yet another empty disappointment for all his Big Lie conspiracy theorists:

So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great 'Founders' did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!

Just in case anyone missed his meaning, he followed this up with:

UNPRECEDENTED FRAUD REQUIRES UNPRECEDENTED CURE!

It's hard to even begin to untangle how many things are so very wrong with these statements. There was no revelation. There was no fraud and no deception, whether massive or miniscule. It was not widespread, because it didn't exist. But the American people are supposed to just take Trump's word for it that his Big Lie is actually reality -- as he has been maintaining all along.

And what is (to Trump) the obvious remedy for this state of affairs? We should "throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER." Because Trump yelled "I won!" as loudly and repeatedly as he did, everyone else should just agree with him and unceremoniously chuck Joe Biden out of the White House to allow for Trump's triumphant return.

There is no provision in the Constitution for any such action, of course, because the Founding Fathers were trying to move as far away from the concept of royalty as they could. But I'm getting ahead of things.

Trump seems to realize that nobody's going to suddenly "declare" him the winner (rightful or not), so he floats another idea: "have a NEW ELECTION". Of course, this is also nowhere to be found in the United States Constitution. But Trump probably thought it sounded better than him just being crowned president, one assumes.

Trump is not known for his attention to legal details, of course. He has quite obviously never actually read the Constitution himself. He has a very short attention span and demands to be briefed with lots of brightly-colored maps and other illustrations, containing as little actual text as possible. He'd never make it all the way through a reading of the Constitution, and he wouldn't understand it even if forced to undergo someone reading it to him.

He does, however, seem to have a grasp on the fact that the Constitution is somehow important to others. Which he then dismisses out of hand: "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution." In other words, because Trump very loudly proclaims his Big Lie is the truth, then it is perfectly fine to just chuck out our country's founding document. Also, we should jettison not just the Constitution, but also any other pesky rules or regulations that stand in his way as well. If it's good enough for Trump to believe, then it should be just fine with everyone else for him to be crowned king of America, right?

He then tries to rope the Constitution's framers into his corner: "Our great 'Founders' did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!" The fact that this is male bovine excrement is, to use the Founders' own phrase, self-evident. Once again, the Founders were trying to get as far away from royalty as possible. Declaring an election null and void because the losing candidate was having an extended public temper tantrum was not a subject that was even discussed at the Constitutional Convention, obviously.

His followup message contains a logic which (as it always has been) is incredibly dangerous to American democracy: "UNPRECEDENTED FRAUD REQUIRES UNPRECEDENTED CURE!" This is precisely the type of thinking (and I use the word loosely) that brought us the January 6th insurrectionist seizure of the United States Capitol by force. Because Trump whines so very loudly about his Big Lie, that means anything goes. No rules or Constitution should restrain any of his followers in achieving Trump's goal of being made an absolute monarch. Trump's will is all that is necessary -- that's what "absolute monarch" means, after all.

Ever since the votes were counted which showed Donald Trump he had lost the 2020 election, he has been trying to rig the eventual outcome. He has been trying to steal an American presidential election. You'll notice that this is precisely what he accuses others of doing ("rigging" or "stealing" the election), but then Republicans are masters of accusing Democrats of what they are actually trying to get away with (and have been since long before Trump took over their party).

Trump's words cannot be interpreted in any other way than a call for his deluded declarations to have more legal weight than the United States Constitution. Just for the record, here is the oath of office every single member of Congress must swear to before being seated (after being elected):

I, [state your name], do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God.

[The word "swear" can be changed to "affirm, " since some religions forbid their members to swear any oaths at all.]

Every single sitting Republican member of Congress had to swear or affirm that oath to be seated.

And one of them, Liz Cheney, just put the crux of the matter in no uncertain terms: "No honest person can now deny that Trump is an enemy of the Constitution."

She's right. His own words remove all doubt.

The Republican Party has long tried to outshine their political opponents in showing their fealty to the United States Constitution. They're the ones who carry pocket copies of it and eagerly hand them out to their supporters. They're the ones who will be reading every word of the Constitution aloud as their first order of business, when they take control of the House of Representatives in January. But all this supposed reverence is absolutely meaningless if they don't now denounce Donald Trump's insane and very dangerous call to "terminate" any part of the Constitution he doesn't feel should apply to him.

In fact, part of that same Constitution dictates that any sitting Republican member of Congress who continues to support Donald Trump in his 2024 presidential campaign should immediately step down from their office. Because the third section of the Fourteenth Amendment explicitly demands this:

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

Supporting Donald Trump's bid for re-election while he is openly calling for any election results he does not approve of to be ignored because he has the magic power to "terminate" the Constitution is giving aid or comfort to an avowed enemy of that Constitution, plain and simple. Doing so disqualifies you from holding office, period.

Not that I'll be holding my breath for this to happen... the Republican Party has sunk so low that ignoring calls to "terminate" the Constitution is now par for their course. It's a sad state of affairs indeed. Because now their loyalty oath to one man trumps (no other word for it, really) their sworn oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies.

The 51-49 majority in the Senate gives Democrats more investigative resources and — crucially — nearly unilateral power to issue subpoenas without Republican buy-in.

CNN also listed these as further benefits the win will give the Dems:

Democrats will hold majorities in each committee, allowing them to process legislation and nominations much faster. Democrats will also enjoy bigger staffs and budgets, giving them more ability to carry out committee work. Committees are currently evenly split – as are the resources – allowing Republicans to slow the pace of nominees they oppose. When a choice deadlocks in committee, Democrats must take time-consuming steps to discharge that person from committee and allow a floor vote. In one instance earlier this year, Republicans used Banking Committee rules to prevent a vote from even taking place by boycotting committee sessions, ultimately forcing President Joe Biden to withdraw a nominee for the Federal Reserve. Tuesday’s result will also free up additional floor time for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to use toward other nominees and Democratic priorities.

I agree. "UNPRECEDENTED FRAUD" being Trump's unprecedented and failed attempt at overturning the election results in order to stay in power. The "UNPRECEDENTED CURE!" required is the former president being indicted for his crimes and given the appropriate prison time when/if convicted. We've never held a former president accountable to criminal acts they committed. It may be unprecedented, but it is necessary!

Republicans won't be satisfied until Hunter Biden kills himself. They are willing to exploit the man's poor personal choices and history of substance abuse to attack his father's standing. But no one should be surprised... they've always attacked the family members of Democrats in the White House. They went after Carter's daughter, Amy, as a teen. Rush used to love making fun of Chelsea Clinton's appearance. Some Republicans went as far as saying Michelle Obama looked like a gorilla. But to go after someone with a history of substance abuse and depression is right up there with Trump mocking someone's physical disability. It's disgusting...even if it isn't surprising.

Reminds me of all the right wingers crying about how not showing what's on Hunter Biden's laptop violates Freedom of Speech, and is some big Democrat conspiracy!!

Exactly! It's utter asinine bullshit, but the right-wingnuts regurgitate back whatever easily verifiable total fiction they are spoon-fed like effing toddlers. Their inability to connect the dots is astonishing in its total dearth. These right-wing blathering dipshits are hooked on Fox propaganda media like it's heroin and/or fentanyl, who are suppressing whatever political content they wish (including, not coincidentally, the same Hunter Biden's laptop content), while they whine and moan like clueless morons about "free speech" and Twitter! Why are none of these idiots complaining about Fox News's noncoverage of the same content?

Obviously, John (not to be confused with John) already knows this, while I'm just using his totally on-point post to piggyback my own thoughts, but it isn't a violation of your damn free speech for a private company not to allow your preferred political content on their platform, website, newsprint, broadcast, etc. It just isn't! It is pathetic to watch a grown man whine about "fraud" because a privately owned company didn't cover the news to suit his political views. What an effing infant! And Righties think this perpetual whiney little victim is some kind of superhuman and create flags to him with his head superimposed over Rambo! It's effing hysterical. Their icon is a con; he's a human tater tot with a brain to match.

What do the morons have against free speech? Private companies aren't required to post the stolen private images of your political opponent or his/her family members. They're just not! Does anyone think Twitter under Musk's ownership should be forced to allow posting of a nude photo of Fat Donny's "smaller than average... dick like the mushroom character in Mario Kart" (not my description but Stormy Daniels)? Anybody? Should Fox News and Twitter be forced to run 24/7/365 coverage of Trump's illegal hush money payoffs to the multiple women with whom he was committing adultery in order to keep them quiet about his extramarital affairs? Anybody heard a Democrat whining that Fox is covering up Fat Bastard's illegal payoffs to his extracurricular females because he cannot: "Oh, behave!"?

    1) First, what is the Republicans obsession with Hunter Biden's genitals all about anyway?

The morons are convinced that the wife cheater/adulterer would have won the 2020 election if only the other candidate's son's genitals would have been exposed on Twitter. Meanwhile, of course, they would vote for Fat Donny if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue and had multiple lawsuits against him (he did/does) for (admittedly) grabbing women by their genitals, but if only the other candidate's son had been exposed on Twitter, that would have changed the votes of others. It's effing preposterous! There is nothing that any of Trump's spawn could do that would have made them vote for Biden, and I cannot fathom how daft you have to be to believe that something on Hunter Biden's laptop "discovered" by Rudy Giuliani would cause a fixed percentage of Americans to change their vote. It's bone-deep-level ignorant.

    2) Twitter is a PRIVATE corporation. It can do whatever the HECK it wants!

I know, right!? No different than the Fentanyl Fox News they're hooked on like heroin could refuse to cover news that was favorable to Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden or invent lies regarding same, which they did and still do without abatement... lather, rinse, repeat. So spare me the bullshit from the whining man-babies about fraud. If the Trumplicans feel there was fraud at Twitter that violated the law and therefore invalidated an election, they could have naturally filed lawsuits. Oh, wait! They did that more than 60 times. Did they mention fraud at Twitter? No. Why not? Because their idiot lawyers whining in public about Hugo Chavez and Twitter would have been laughed out of courtrooms all across the United States for claiming fraud by a deceased person and a private company who wouldn't cover political news to suit their personal fancy. Cry me a river!

Furthermore, the "fraud" Trump is whining about involved the Biden campaign asking Twitter to remove Hunter Biden's dick picks and some videos that were illegally obtained and involved a chain of custody including Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and were posted without Hunter's consent. Also, Twitter's non-consensual nudity policy prohibits the posting of "images or videos that are taken in an intimate setting and not intended for public distribution." Not surprisingly, California statute also makes the sharing of this type content illegal, and Twitter is headquartered in (you guessed it) California (there's a joke in there somewhere about a Showtime series). That content was removed because it was a violation of law to post it without Hunter Biden's consent, and (not surprisingly), Twitter was told he did not consent.

Now, if you're an ignorant right-wingnut, you might be tempted to double down on the stupid and whine that it's against the First Amendment for the government to request that a private company remove that type of content, but Democrats and Independents (and even some Republicans that aren't human tater tots) would kindly remind you that Joe Biden nor his campaign were part of the government when the request was made and neither was Joe Biden's son (and still isn't, unlike Trump's spawn who actually was at that time). So, obviously, those illegal tweets were removed as requested by private citizens but contained no political content whatsoever and nothing but the personal video and photographs of private citizens.

Twitter's new owner, Elon Musk, called their removal a violation of the First Amendment, proving without doubt that Musk is as ignorant as Trump in regards to the United States Constitution. Wasn't it Musk himself who just booted Trump's buddy "Ye" off Twitter? Didn't Musk just violate Ye's First Amendment rights? Duh! Maybe he missed the House Judiciary Republican's tweet saying: "Kanye. Elon. Trump."

    3) Violation of Freedom of Speech ONLY applies to the government, NOT to private CORPORATIONS.

Somebody should seriously notify all the right-wingnuts including, but (especially) not limited to: "Kanye. Elon. Trump."

They're complaining that "the government" requested that the information be suppressed because they're too damn dumb to deduce that although Biden is now and will henceforth forever be referred to as "President Biden," there is no way on Earth 1 (not to be confused with Earth 2 on which they're living) that this presidential nomenclature applies to Joe Biden in reverse, or more specifically, at any other time before noon Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, the date and time he actually became the President of the United States a.k.a. "the government."

According to Elon Musk, it'll be a violation of the First Amendment if Twitter suppresses the posting of Trump's dick picks. I cannot imagine how those won't now surface under the circumstances such as they are.

    Poor Donald.
