I'm pretty good at calling political races, and my dad is even better. 2020 was perhaps the only time I got one over on him, and that's just because Donald self-destructed when he couldn't wish away covid-19. ever since his conviction in New York it seems all the events are tilting trump's way. dad and I agree on this one, and it probably won't be close.

I’m disappointed that Joe is stepping down, because the fundamentals were not changed by his horrible debate last month. Mind you, there’s no way in a million years that Joe should have showed up in that condition. Whoever screwed up it was Joe’s responsibility to do better than that.
Harris has to be the new nominee so to ensure that the $96m in the Bank of Joe doesn’t go to waste.
I still don’t think the fundamentals have changed in Trump’s favor and polling really didn’t change since June. I doubt there are undecideds who’ve concluded Trump got shot at so I think I’m going to vote for him. What policies the Repugs have are unpopular, they can’t govern and now Trump’s whackness will be front and center. I still anticipate a blue tsunami come November.
Absolutely no one had any ability whatsoever to push Biden out. If he'd decided to stay in and lose, he would have stayed in and lost.
Kamala Harris will probably lose too. But she has about a thousand times the likelihood of winning that Biden would have if he had decided to stay in.

Thoughts from a senior citizen :
Age isn't everything, even just in terms of cognition. There are plenty who are 80+ and sharper than Trump. As to wisdom, while there are some wise young heads (who will still benefit from experience), more gain wisdom with age and experience, and some will never be wise at any age.
That said, the latter part of life is very unpredictable and what has been a slow, gentle decline can suddenly, terrifingly accelerate. Biden's doctors and his nearest may have a good idea of the stage he is at; the rest of us don't. The same applies to Trump, for that matter.
Biden might have had recent new medical or family advice or might have re-evaluated the political situation. In any case, he has surely acted in what he believes is the best interest of the country.
I hope he is right. It is encouraging that so far Dems are putting solidarity and the national interest before individual ambition, including a number who would likely make decent presidents.
Thanks, Joe, you exceeded expectations. Enjoy your well-earned retirement.

In the United States, we nominate Party candidates by electing delegates who go to a convention and then cast their vote for the candidate. Any candidate is free to release their delegates until they are the official nominee. Joe Biden releasing his delegates and endorsing Kamala Harris is no different than Nikki Haley endorsing Donald Trump and releasing her delegates and encouraging them to vote for Convicted Felon Donald Trump, except in number only, obviously.
