CNN's North Carolina Bombshell

[ Posted Thursday, September 19th, 2024 – 15:27 UTC ]

CNN just published a bombshell report with details of the online past of the Republican gubernatorial candidate in North Carolina, the current Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. Much of their reporting dealt with Robinson's history on a pornographic site, which is in keeping with previous reports that Robinson was a regular at video porn shops in the town where he lived in the 1990s and 2000s. But what's much more concerning than his apparent sexual tastes and habits is what he had to say on plenty of other subjects. An argument can be made that a person's private sexual habits aren't really germane to their fitness for office, but it's a whole lot harder to say the same thing about someone who openly supports bringing slavery back.

Robinson, who is Black, reportedly referred to himself on the porn site's message board as a "black NAZI!" He expressed hatred for Martin Luther King Junior, saying of the new statue of King in Washington (which was dedicated by President Barack Obama): "Get that f*cking commie bastard off the National Mall." He expressed what might be called racial self-hatred, posting: "I'm not in the KKK. They don't let blacks join. If I was in the KKK I would have called him Martin Lucifer Koon!"

That -- and not the fact it was on a porn site -- is what should be totally disqualifying for the voters of North Carolina. Need more proof? Here is Robinson on the subject of slavery: "Slavery is not bad. Some people need to be slaves. I wish they would bring it (slavery) back. I would certainly buy a few." Or what he had to say about the government while Barack Obama was president: "I'd take Hitler over any of the sh*t that's in Washington right now!"

This is a man who is running for governor. Who is already in the state's second-highest elected office. And who -- naturally, in the age of Trump -- is treated as a rock star at conservative gatherings. Just like Trump, he seems to have no filter on what he says. And it almost goes without saying that Trump has already endorsed Robinson.

Robinson's penchant for saying offensive things was already well documented even before the CNN article came out. Here are a few of his other odious opinions:

There was the time he called school shooting survivors "media prosti-tots" for advocating for gun-control policies. The meme mocking a Harvey Weinstein accuser, and the other meme mocking actresses for wearing "whore dresses to protest sexual harassment." The prediction that rising acceptance of homosexuality would lead to pedophilia and "the END of civilization as we know it"; the talk of arresting transgender people for their bathroom choice; the use of antisemitic tropes; the Facebook posts calling Hillary Clinton a "heifer" and Michelle Obama a man.

In today's Republican Party, making outrageous comments is the quickest and easiest way to national recognition and fame. And for the most part, the content of theses comments is almost immaterial, since such things are judged (by Republicans) not on what is said but purely on the reaction it sparks. The more liberals are triggered and offended by the outrageous comment, the more successful it is judged by the GOP rank and file. This does have its limits (for all politicians not named "Donald Trump," at least) and occasionally someone will say something so offensive that they crash and burn even within their own party (such as Kristi Noem's charming story of shooting her pet dog in a gravel pit, for instance). It remains to be seen whether the comments revealed by CNN will tank Robinson's political future or not.

This could happen quickly, since the deadline for a candidate in North Carolina to officially withdraw from the race is midnight tonight. Some Republicans in North Carolina are begging Robinson to do so, after which the state Republican Party would name someone to replace him on the ballots. But so far, Robinson remains defiant. He has denied that the report is true and is refusing to even consider stepping down.

This could all be important in a wider sense, if Robinson stays on the ballot. Recent polls have shown Robinson down anywhere from five to 14 points against his Democratic opponent Josh Stein. North Carolina is a presidential battleground state as well, with the race neck-and-neck between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. If Robinson's offensiveness drives people to the polls, perhaps Harris will get an edge on turnout -- and North Carolina could wind up being decisive in the Electoral College.

It used to pretty much go without saying that stating: "Slavery is not bad," or: "Some people need to be slaves," or: "I would certainly buy a few" was completely disqualifying for any candidate for any office from either party. The fact that the speaker is Black himself wouldn't matter one bit, either. Anyone expressing such views would have been summarily drummed out of his party forthwith.

Sadly, only one party can still make that claim in today's America. With Trump in charge of the Republican Party, anything goes. The only thing that will ever make Trump disavow a fellow Republican is insufficient loyalty to Donald Trump. Nothing else matters. Trump is planning a rally in North Carolina on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if he allows Robinson on the stage with him. Even if he doesn't, however, Trump will likely still support Robinson's candidacy. And that tells you pretty much everything you need to know about Trump and the Republican Party he now controls.

I have question for ya'all.. Well, 2 questions actually..

Since you two are the only ones here in Weigantia, besides myself of course, who HAVEN'T drunk the Harris/Walz Joy Joy Koolaid, I am sincerely curious as to your answers...

    1. What does it say about the Democrat Party and their agenda that they have whole-heartedly and enthusiastically embraced Dick 'Darth Vader' Cheney as a kindred spirit??

    2. What does it say about the Democrat Party and their agenda that 26 million Democrats have stated that political violence IS acceptable to prevent President Trump from running in and winning the 2024 election....

Bonus points if you can answer without having to mention the once and future President Of The United States, President Donald Trump.

I eagerly await your answers... :D

Dude, you drank the Trump kool-Aid liked it so much you came back for seconds and possibly thirds...

Hiding behind lies and half truths again, eh?

    whole-heartedly and enthusiastically

Heh...love to see you back that up. But you won't...

As for the poll, lets see where you got it? (I'm fairly certain I know) Can you back your shit up or have you become that much of a light weight?

So then, imagine what would happen if somebody actually told Mark Robinson, to his face: "I think you're better than Martin Luther King. I think you are Martin Luther King times two." Well, you don't have to imagine it because according to Donald Trump, he did that:

And he looked at me, and I wasn't sure, was he angry because that's a terrible thing to say or was he complimented? I have never figured it out, but I'm telling you, he's more than -- right? When I said that to you, you looked like, "I don't know if I like that compliment."

Trump Calls Mark Robinson "Martin Luther King On Steroids"

So then, Mark Robinson did not take that as a compliment; he was another angry Republican, but you can't throw a rock without hitting one of them.

    Mystery solved.

Connecting the dots; it's what we do. :)

I hear he has until 11:59 p.m. EDT to formally withdraw from the race *checks time* and has about 1.25 hours remaining to do that. I also hear that he is facing significant pressure from the Republican Party to withdraw but still refuses... insisting he's "in it to win it."

Leave him alone, Righties. I hear he's an angry Republican, and he has a gun. He also could be a huge factor to help in winning... for Kamala Harris. :)

Ooooh... we're playing "Two Questions"!? Oh, boy!

I got two questions that anybody can answer since I'm not a snowflake who insists on creating a safe space:

    1. What does it say about the Republican Party and their agenda that they have whole-heartedly and enthusiastically nominated a twice impeached, 34-times guilty convicted felon who summoned a mob to the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to pressure his vice president to use illegal certificates of ascertainment obtained from multiple states in a conspiracy in which he was personally involved with the goal of overturning America's presidential election, undercut the will of millions of voters and subvert the nation's democracy to keep president-elect Joe Biden from replacing the loser in office (him)... but not before he packed up dozens of boxes of top secret documents belonging to the United States which he later stored in his Florida estate... multiple sensitive documents regarding nuclear capabilities -- which he admittedly took -- and repeatedly enlisted aides and his own lawyer to help him hide those records demanded by investigators but not before he had cavalierly showed off a stolen Pentagon "plan of attack" and a classified map to people not authorized to see them?

    2. What does it say about a right-wingnut MAGA minion whose tinfoil hat is demonstrably on so tight that he's self-depriving his remaining two brain cells of much-needed oxygen?

The leader of the Republican Party has a not-so-secret very well-known ceiling of around about 46% support and has actually had this ceiling for nigh on an entire decade. Democrats having gotten the candidate they hoped for now want him to definitely remain very much alive and heading the Republican ticket consisting of two male chauvinist pigs... because there is no amount of lipstick you can put on either (or both) of them.

    Any more questions? :)

    2. What does it say about the Republican party that they are running a get out the incels campaign?

The news about minidonald isn't going to make much difference.

A small difference is all it would take to flip the state. The "reverse coattail effect" could motivate the vote in a state that Donald Trump only won by 1.3% in 2020 with a current two-term term-limited Democratic governor.

Anyone who was still willing to vote Republican will just call it fake news.

Yes... but you have voters who weren't willing to vote for Donald Trump, who won only 73.86% of primary voters. Factor in minijunkfatdonny *look what y'all made me do* and it's not altogether unreasonable that some of them might stay home since there are three male chauvinists at the top of the GOP ballot, and there's not enough lipstick for that passel of pigs wherein one of them referred to the other as "America's Hitler" and the other one referred to himself as "black NAZI!"

North Carolina is ripe for the flipping.

    1. it says the Democratic party is desperate enough to prevent a return to January 2021 that we'll accept alliance even with someone who we disagree with about literally everything else.
    2. if that were true, it would say that whichever leader is promoting the use of political violence is doing an excellent job of it - perhaps better than intended.
