Edwards Endorsement (Continued)

[ Posted Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 – 15:36 UTC ]

Barack Obama gave a speech today about race.

It's getting rave reviews, so it must have been a real humdinger of a speech. But I have not had a chance to actually see his speech yet, so I'm going to refrain from commenting on the larger issues the speech addressed, for today. I apologize for the delay. I also apologize, because this is going to be a short column.

I have, however, read the speech's transcript. And in relation to what I wrote yesterday, one paragraph of Obama's immediately jumped out at me:

This time we want to talk about the shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion, every region, every walk of life. This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesn't look like you might take your job; it's that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit.

Hmmm... let's see... who was the other candidate who talked about "shuttered mills" in his speeches?

Perhaps John Edwards still hasn't made up his mind. Edwards will be appearing on Jay Leno's Tonight Show this Thursday night, which is where he will likely publicly announce who he is endorsing. But I'm wondering now whether Obama's speech today will have any influence on Edwards' decision....

If Edwards hasn't made up his mind by now, one can really only assume that he has a personal agenda..

    I mean, come'on!!

Chris, did you catch this tonight --

After the normal jabs and fun - Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show":

(spoken with complete frankness and honesty) “And so, at 11 o’clock on Tuesday, a prominent politician spoke to Americans about race — as if they were adults.”

I agree with you, Edwards MUST have a personal agenda. I can somewhat understand Richardson (long time friends with the Clintons, two appointments under the Clintons - and yet hasn't endorsed ... though for me, the silence is enough of an endorsement for Obama).

And that Edwards is still on the fence, only proves to me that his shift to the more progressive side this year was more out of political positioning and that the Edwards of 2004 is the true Edwards.

Should he endorse Clinton, it would put the answer to rest. Though, for the most part, I have nothing against personal injury lawyers (many do good things) - An endorsement of Clinton would strongly support that he is more of an "ambulance chaser" (opportunist) than a person of strong beliefs.

I think CW hit on it a bit ago...

Edwards is probably waiting until there is a clear victor so he can ride that person's coattails into a cushy cabinet position or something..

On another completely unrelated note, I am constantly amazed at Obama's voice. I get 90% of my news from reading (online and print). But on the rare occasion I catch a video of Obama, I am always shocked at how deep his voice is. One would think he would have a higher pitched voice, given his slight stature.. But with that deep voice, I can easily see why his speeches are so revered... It's almost scary how his voice is..

Anyways, again.. Totally unrelated to anything. I just felt like sharing..

A favorite theory of mine was proven wrong last night. I have long maintained that James Carville and Terry Bradshaw were, in actuality, the same person. I had never seen the two photographed together, which was proof enough for me!

Alas, Jay Leno had them both as guests last night, and they sat next to each other on a couch.

Sigh. Oh, well, can't be right all the time....

    Yo Chris -

No endorsement from Edwards on Leno :(

However, Governor Richardson is endorsing Obama Friday night in Portland, OR. So one has come off the fence!

Yeah, Edwards on Leno was a major disappointment.

Hmmm... disappointment... and it's Friday... more on this later!
